Local histories have been published concerning many of the large cities and counties in the United States of America. Many of these county and city histories were published between the years of of 1870 to 1900. Often these histories provided detailed biographies of residents and the families that occupied them. Some local histories even contain photographs of homes and residents in the area. You can find these local histories at the local libraries, or at a historical societies.  Some county histories have been microfilmed so be sure to check the Family History Library Catalog (www.familysearch.org).  And, many county histories have been transcribed or scanned and put online because the books are no longer under copyright.
